IN-SCHOOL YOUTH SERVICES
Youth Achieving Potential (YAP), a transition youth program focuses on preparing high school students with special needs to transition from high school into post-secondary education and training and/or employment. The target population is identified as 12th grade students with disabilities exiting from northwest Baltimore City public high schools. Career assessment, including goal setting, the development of a career portfolio, work training experience at LifeBridge Health, and placement in jobs, training, or education and retention service make up the core components of this highly successful program.
OUT OF SCHOOL YOUTH SERVICES
Youth Opportunity Services (YO)
This MOED-funded program, operating for the past twelve years, serves out-of-school youth ages 16 to 21 referred from local Baltimore City YO centers for three primary service components: Career Assessment (helping young people determine a realistic vocational goal), a 10-week work training in a Sinai Hospital department and job placement assistance in an effort to secure permanent employment with a local employer.
Program graduates have obtained jobs within the following LifeBridge Health departments: Patient Accounting, GIGU, Health Information Management, Dietary, Central Sterile and with the following local employers: Laborer’s Union Apprenticeship program, VSP at Social Security, BWI and Downtown Marriott, Hecht Company, Renaissance Hotel, and the National Aquarium.
Healthcare Careers Alliance Services (HCA)
Healthcare Careers Alliance (HCA) services, a MOED-funded program, provide vocational and case management services to out-of-school youth (between the ages of 18 and 21) residing in Baltimore City who possess a GED or high school diploma and possess strong interest in entering the healthcare field. Services include intake, career assessment and program orientation; two weeks of job readiness and life skills training; seven-weeks of work training at LifeBridge Health, University of Maryland Medical Center, or The Johns Hopkins Hospital; transition into permanent employment at one of the partner institutions or entrance into post-secondary training; twelve months of post-placement support services.
Program graduates have been hired into the following types of LifeBridge Health positions: Patient Transportation, Cashier, Laundry Aide, Patient Care Associate, Customer Service Representative, Administrative Aide., Dietary Aide, Decontamination Technician.
